The pictured statue of Oscar Wilde is located in the heart of Dublin in a lovely park (seen below), across the street from his home. His sprawled pose gives us a look at the "cool" attitude he projected.

A prolific writer, Wilde wrote poetry, novels and children's stories. His masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest (1895) is still very popular with community and regional theatre groups.

Wilde's Wild Quotes *

"Duty is what one expects from others."

Asked about the first performance of one of his plays, Wilde replied: "Oh, the play itself was a huge success, but the audience was a total failure."

"Nothing succeeds like excess."
